Holding Hands In The Dark

London / 2024

‘Holding Hands In The Dark’ explores the limbo space between dreaming and waking, embodying the presence of this unknowable yet known place that occurs during moments of intensity, intimacy, and collective effervescence. Questioning panopticism, surveillance and the public/private divide, the performers interact with each other and move around the stage space, transitioning from intimate personal exchanges to being an isolated observer, from watcher to watched.

The performance is soundtracked by an original soundscape that includes snippets of dreams sent by anonymous participants. Bodies are stuck in a cycle of sleep and wake. In the illusory space of nocturnal imaginings, who knows what we’ve done to people in their dreams or what they have done to us. How do you differentiate which is which? Who is the observer and who is the observed? Who is the one in control?
